What are some good exercises?

krazyglue said: "I was wondering what some good exercises are for when you are at home and cannot make it to a gym and have no gym equipment except an elliptic trainer and a pair of dumbells. Something that doesn't involve running, because I hate running and can never manage to keep running after a lap or two."

Some excercises might include: leg lifts, arm lifts, crunches, squats with your dumbells, arm presses with weight resistance, jumping jacks, stepping with the music, just feel the music and move to it. Once you start, you might just move automatically after a few times. Maybe you can purchase some leg and arm weights. I have them and find them good for resistance. I believe my ankle ones cost me $25 and my wrist ones cost me $15. I combine them with my dumbells. You sit on a chair and lift the weights beside your thighs and bring them up to your chest. You can also sit on a chair and lift the weights past your chest, holding them left to right as you hold them. Another one is laying on your side and have your leg on the floor bent and your other one slightly bent as you lift to the beat. Online has many ideas of excercises and there are also inexpensive videos you can buy so there will be more excercises that catch your eye. Did you know that walking a fast beat around the track is just as good as running? Do you own a walkman or radio? I purchased a small radio at the dollar store for $1.00. I do you have a path or park near you that have a path from beginning to around to the end? You can even walk in your house. Stairs are the best stairmaster going. If you hold onto a pair of weights and walk up and down the stairs, it simulates the same as a piece of gym equipment. Even around the block once a day at a set time would help you feel mobile. The more you do, the better you feel after. It raises your endophens and others will notice a change in you. Your diet will also work against or with you. Good luck on your choice to be fit."

I just got a nice present that is perfect for me as I don't like to walk at home.(just on my lunch break at work cause there's a big hil to walk up!) My sister just sent me a brand new exercise video called Going Going Gone. She bought it from the lady who made it (Shannon Holand) where she lives in the Okanagan in BC (Canada). It's the 1st timelapsed exercise video ever made. This lady started making the video when she weighed over 200 lbs. and by the end of the workout she has lost 60 lbs. It's really cool. Best part is I can actually do it! It's not as fast as other videos I've tried and she does easy steps and makes it easy to follow. If you're interested I'll ask my sister to find out where you can buy them. I've only done it 3 times (without the step) and can actually do the whole 30 minutes. It's kinda cool working out with someone who's just like me instead of Bambi! Very inspiring for overweight people like us. Jamie"

Hold at the one end, where your palms are clasped onto the big part of the end and the back of your hands are facing the othe end. You place it over your head, with your elbows next to your ears, and lower it down behind your head to where your arm forms a 90 degree angle. Down and up is one rep. This is really good for the bye-bye. The next your get a chair (if you have a stool or something stable you can sit on that is just below a normal chair height it would be best) and a pair of dumbells. Sit on the edge of the chair with the dumbells on your shoulders and feet shoulder width apart. Raise your-self up just alittle bit and hold, you want to "hover" over the edge of the chair. Start out holding for 10 sec and work your way up. This is good for your legs and butt. A few things that are good todo with out weights are wall push-ups, wall sits, calf raises, and jump rope. Oh and you can hold a set of your dumbells and do lunges."

I used to lift weights all the time but I didn't get the cardio that a wanted. This is a little faster paced and the excercises work really work out the muscles. You can take a look at it www.mattfurey.com"
