Building up endurance for joggingBuilding up endurance for jogging
papercut said: "You could try sprints,
Warm up thourghly first and make sure you have shoes with good arch support, and then sprint for 1/4 a lap then slow jog for half a lap and then repeat.
Try this a couple of times first and then build up, mix it up, if you decide you like this, one time run all out next pull back a bit, and mix up the distances as well.
Sprints will develop your thighs hamstrings, glutes, and that hard to build calf area.
Another thing you could try, is to sprint a distance and then do a set of push-ups, do this 10 times, it doesn't have to be push ups though it could be chin ups, pull ups, etc
Hope this help you"

I've made tapes and cds of a faster paced beat and when i run with them, i run to the beat and don't even notice the time or the pain. i'll make the length of the music about 30-45 mins and go. my favs to run to are Rocky themes, mama said knock you out, limp bizkit. they have a nice pace and running to the beat will get me about 2.5 miles in 30 minutes."

I recently acheived 5km (3miles) non-stop running after building myself up over a period of a couple of months. before that I couldn't even run 1min! What i did was challenge myself to run a little bit further every day. It didn't matter if it was for 10sec longer or 2min longer, just that it was longer than the day before. If you put this kind of strategy into place then you'll be clocking up the distance in no time. However you shouldn't add more than 10% each week, or you'll run the risk of getting injured. I hurt my back on the 5km run and still haven't got back to it yet (almost 1month now :( ) Fortunately though, I've started bike riding more to make up for it. But if you set your mind to it, you can do it.

i was looking for some techniques for building my endurance so i can jog further. i don't like to walk and jog because i get bored very easily. i'm hoping if i can jog further, then i will enjoy it more. right now when i jog on this track, i can jog 3/4 of the track (quarter mile long track) and then i'm sucking wind for a while.
i was thinking of trying this for a while:
-walk a lap for warm up
-jog half a lap
-walk 1 and 1/2 lap
-jog half a lap
-repeat over and over
if i do that 2-3 times a week will i see improvement pretty soon? i'm being a little impatient and i want to see results NOW!!! :D heh, i'm very impatient at times which does not help at all when dieting.
anyways, i was looking for some ideas.
thank you
Brett"

scarlett, i'm gonna give that article a shot. it seems like something that will work for me right now. one part of it made me laught though, because i swear it goes through my head every time i try to jog:
Their bodies rebel, and they wind up miserable, wondering why anyone would possibly want to do this to themselves.
anyways. we'll see how this goes. thanks again all."

I just decided to keep running now matter how bad it hurt and I realized after a while the pain is constant, it doesnt hurt even MORE and I adjust...ask your doctor about that lol, Im just sayin what works for me. But usually when I push myself one day Ill see a HUGE increase in stamina and speed the next day and I usually run on average 2 miles a day. Honestly, I love running and I look forward to it everyday."
