I am a mother of three, with a son graduating this spring. I am changing my lifestyle to represent one of health, exercise, and motivation. O.K. in other words, I want to look great at 40! :) I have purchased a journal to write what I eat, the calories, fat, carbs, protein, and my goals. A real eye opener. I have also purchased a new treadmill and have been working out 30 min a day. Need to do more, but its a good start. I do need the support because it is a challenge to support myself day in and day out. Look forward to hearing from all of you. Brastasi"

It won't take long and you will have a fever for it and you will be going like gang busters. Keep to the forums and we will help you along the way. I too said to myself that I was not going to go into my 40s being over weight. I have untill October to get 75% percent of my goal. I hope to have accomplished 100% of my goal by next January. I have been at this for 5 weeks now and I feel I have accomplished a lot. Take it week by week and hang in there. We are all strong and can do this with a lot of encouragement form one another. Please keep us posted on your journey. Email if you need anything."

I have just recently done the same, and I am trying to keep on it. Coming to the forum really keeps me going. Everyone here has a similar goal of some sort, so you know you aren't the only one, and that it's a real issue to SO many people. But many of the people here are already proof that we make the choice to change and become the healthiest we can. So good luck to you, and congratulations on a great start. Stay with us!! Steph"

brastasi said: "Thanks for all the advice and comments. It is overwhelming and exciting to have such geuine support. Yesterday I looked at what I have written in my journal before dinner, and I was surprised to see that I had only reached about 800 calories before dinner. Watching what I eat, and then having to look at what I had written down keeps me focused. It does take time, but I have told myself that I have time for everything else, like watching T.V., reading a good book, going to purchase fast food, ect. Wow! honesty is the best policy. :o"

brastasi said: "I am already there. Will be 41 in July. For me, this is not only about losing weight and looking great, but about health. I am borderline diabetic and my family has heart failure and high blood pressure. I do not want to feel 80 at the age of 60. I guess now I feel the pressure is on. It is do and now or accept myself the way I am. I know I can look better :D"

That way you can take steps to fix them. As Determined said, start slow and work your way up. A treadmill is an excellent way to get started, no matter what the weather is. Happy to meet you!"

Heather said: "Welcome to the forums, Glad that you decided to join us! I know what you mean about wanting to look great when you look older. Losing weight is one thing that you can do to make sure that you look your best. Here's a *boost* from me!"

Elaine said: "Hi! What is the story behind your name? Focus on your goals and work every day to achieve them and you will do great! A treadmill will help!"

I use it as a guide more than a manual. Letting the scale upest you is insane. Go by how you feel and how your clothes are fitting. Weighing yourself every day just affirms whatever the numbers say, and it fluctuates wildly every day."
