Meat Replacements
August 24, 2007 – 10:00 amIf you’ve ever thought about going vegetarian or even cutting back on the amount of meat that you consume, there are plenty of alternatives that are just as tasty and don’t take the life of an animal to produce. I’m going to talk about some products that I’ve used (and like) over the past couple of years.
Morningstar Products. Morningstar makes a number of different soy based products that can be used to replace meat. They include sausages, bacon, chicken fingers, nuggets and sandwich patties. Morningstar also makes burger like crumbles that can be used to make tacos, sloppy joes, spaghetti sauce or other recipes that call for hamburger. In addition to this lineup, they offer Chik’N and Steak Strips (which I don’t like as well) to use for salads or other prepared type of dinners. They also make Corn Dogs which are good from time to time.
Boca Burgers. For some reason I’ve never used Boca products as much as Morningstar, but they also offer crumbles as well as prepared dishes like lasagna and Chipotle wraps. I’ve never really disliked them, I just haven’t used them as much.
..and don’t forget that not every meal has to include meat! You can easily feast on a fresh salad or a baked potato for a satisfying light lunch. The point is, lowering the amount of meat that you eat isn’t that difficult to do when you use your imagination and realize that there are other meat alternatives out there.
