Proposed Tax Increase Could Help Cover Children Without Health Insurance
August 6, 2007 – 7:51 pmA bill that has been passed in both the House and the Senate seeks to provide improved health care for children that aren’t covered by health insurance.
The State Children’s Health Insurance Program, or the SCHIP program, would be funded by the Federal government and would pass tax money along to State governments to provide funding to low income families with children for health care. This health care be provided by either state programs or private health insurance, depending on the state.
If this bill is passed and signed by the President, it will be funded primarily by a federally mandated tobacco tax, making the price of smoking even more expensive for the people that can still afford to do it.
