What Have You Done Lately?

The thing about both body and mind is that they’re demanding. You get no sympathy from your waistline, no words of understanding from muscles, and no compassion from the chemicals that regulate your brain. The health of your body and mind are not swayed by excuses and reasons, and it doesn’t wait for you to make time for it.

Which is where most people start down a road of bad habits.

The problem, of course, is that there aren’t good excuses–it’s that there’s millions of them. But they only work to assuage you, the whole you, not your muscles or waistline.

So, building good habits means asking yourself, on behalf of your mind and body, what good you’ve done for it lately. Little things are a good start. Water instead of pop is the big one I work on myself. Pop is probably the biggest single source of calories for me, so one of the biggest little things that I need to work on. But another example might be walking more, eating less, anything like that. The important thing is to start and to ask that question of yourself at least once a day.

Then move up to twice a day. Then more.

Slowly but surely, one step at a time, you can move yourself into a healthy lifestyle.

  2. Good advice. Excuses are really easy to make, but they end up with you regretting your actions.
