Healthcare Facilities are Finally Showing That They Care About Our Health

This entry is to say kudos to hospitals such as Good Shepherd Medical Center in Portland, Oregon, for switching to an organic food program for their patients. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Diet-Hospital-Food.html
Those of us, who have ever spent time in a hospital, know what typical hospital food looks and tastes like. Dry, stringy meat, over cooked vegetables, basically food that provides the minimal amount of nutrition and absolutely no appeal what so ever. This prompts us to ask our visitors to please stop off at the nearest KFC and bring us some food.

This hospital has adopted the attitude that the food served to their patients should actually be a part of their treatment, since most of them are already being fed all sorts of medications that their bodies have to process. Combine that with the illness they are facing and their already weakened state, the food that they are given should at least be nutritious, not just something to fill the stomach. Organic foods contain no chemicals like MSG, or additives like food coloring. The meats they serve are lean and antibiotic free and all food is cooked from scratch, so the original nutrients are not destroyed by commercial processing.

This is becoming a new trend in the health care field, as other health care facilities have also adopted this approach. Catholic Healthcare West in California grows its own food, which ensures its purity even more. I’m glad to see that hospitals are adopting measures to actually help heal their patients, as opposed to feeding them food that would make Fido think twice before sampling it. Today’s affirmation is, There are people out there that care about me. Say it 10 times and mean it. Peace - Rhonda
