Greetings,
I don’t know about you but I’m an admitted coffee addict. Despite my interest in living a healthy life, I have ignored all warnings that have been issued about drinking too much of it and happily consumed as much as I wanted to. Recently, I had to do an article on the health benefits of coffee and was surprised to discover that this marvelous drink was full of antioxidants. So much so, that it is one of the main plant based sources for them. These antioxidants have been shown to help prevent some forms of cancer as well as being particularly effective in keeping heavy drinkers with hepatitis from developing liver cancer. Don’t belive me? Feel free to check out this article: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Health/story?id=1074559
Of course, coffee can raise blood pressure, but the good news is, is that decaf also contains lots of the free radical enemies called antioxidants. This was great news for me as well as other coffee addicts. You might also be interested in knowing that coffee is not derived from a bean. It is actually the seed of a berry. For those who are interested in learning about who drank the first cup of coffee, it was about 12 centuries ago in Ethiopia. A goat herder was amazed that his goats became more energetic when eating certain berries. Curious, he tried the berries himself and felt energized himself. He ran to the local holy man and proclaimed the magical effects of the berries. The holy man declared them to be evil and ordered them burned. As the berries were burned, the rich aroma filled the air and smelled so enticing that the holy man changed his mind and ordered them to be raked from the flames. They were put in water to cool and the holyman took a sip. Thus, the first cup of java was enjoyed. So raise up your cups in salute to the goat herder and his goats and say thanks for giving the world a drink that is enjoyed by millions. Today’s affirmation is I don’t have to feel deprived of the things I enjoy. Say it 10 times and mean it. Peace-Rhonda
