Successful losers eat breakfast (and I mean that in the best way)

I already knew that eating breakfast was important, but when I read these statistics I was a little surprised: in a poll of “successful losers” (people who lost at least 30 lbs and kept if off for at least a year) 78% report eating breakfast every day and a whopping 90% report eating breakfast at least 5 days a week.

90% of successful losers?! That’s practically everybody! Okay- maybe I need to take this breakfast thing a little more seriously than I have been.

This shouldn’t really be “breaking news” to anyone- the wonders of eating breakfast have been plastered all over magazines, TV, and the internet for as long as anybody can remember. Even my oldest relatives were known for saying it’s the most important meal of the day. Yet somehow I never really focused on it or thought about it as an important part of losing weight. Truth is that eating breakfast jumpstarts your metabolism, helps prevent “starvation eating” later on in the day, and has several other associated health-friendly traits (such as a tendency to exercise more, eat less fat, and eat less calories overall).

Well, after a rough start, I’m finally on the breakfast bandwagon! When I ‘got serious’ several months ago I decided to start eating breakfast as part of my plan because it seemed like a simple and well-proven method to lose some pounds- and it was. The first few days were a little miserable as I noticed that eating breakfast actually made me hungrier during the day (my metabolism revving up?), but after a few days of sticking to it I actually started to feel really good. All the hype turned out to be true- I feel more energized, less hungry, and I’ve definitely been losing weight.

This is one of those situations where I just have to say “follow the herd!” That “90% of successful losers” got it right.
