Your attitude creates the life you live

Sure, it’s a fairly simplistic statement. But it holds up to closer scrutiny if we take a good look at it. Let’s start with some basics than anyone can relate to. Have you ever been in a really, really crappy mood and you were sure that bad things would happen to you that day? And indeed they may have.

Have you ever been in a really great mood and you were sure that all the blessing of the world should be bestowed upon your chosen head? Did great things happen that day? They may have. If you’ve been around for any time at all, you’ll probably realize that a lot of what you feel about something is related to what actually happens.

A simple exercise that I can tell you to take might just shed some light on what I’m saying. Plan on taking a walk. (You’re hanging around a weight loss site reading forums and blog posts - I guarantee you need the exercise!). Don’t walk somewhere isolated. Go to a mall or a crowded path. And make a serious effort to make eye contact, smile, and say “Hello” to every person who walks by.

Then come back and tell me what happens. I already know, but I’d love to hear your opinions. You know the saying: “Smile at the world and the whole world smiles back”? Give it a try, and see if it really works.

  2. Since I’m a runner, I see lots of people every day on my running routes. I took your advice and waved, smiled and said “Hi” to everyone I saw. Almost everyone smiled back and some even said “Hi” and waved. I even smiled and waved at a guy in a car that wanted to run me over at a stop sign. He was about to give me the finger, but when I smiled and waved, he actually said “Oops, sorry…didn’t see you there” and stopped. Amazing what a little courtesy and kindness does :)

  3. See! I’m glad someone took tried it.

I’ve noticed a nearly 85-90% positive reaction. If you’re closed to them, hardly any will smile.

It’s a very real phenomenon in this case.

  4. I always thought this was interesting.

The younger kids that walk in packs of 3 or more usually don’t smile or say hello, even if you smile and say hello to them.. but not all. Some kids are friendly and act respectful when they pass you on the path.

I would rather smile at the world and have it smile back at me..
