It’s Pat Yourself on the Back Day

Greetings –

In the last article, we discussed increasing our sense of self respect. This article will be a continuation of that one. Now as much as I would like to take all of the credit for what I’m about to write, I have to give Darren the credit that is due him. I read his article on tithing and thought about all of the things that we do for people, our pets, plants, cars, etc. So I am taking the liberty of declaring today and everyday here after Pat Yourself on the Back Day. There is no better way to raise your self esteem than to remind yourself of the things that you have accomplished. They don’t have to be of superhero proportions. Nope, it can be as simple as getting to work on time without cursing out the driver in front you, whose talking on the cell and driving slowly. Even if you did utter a few oaths, you still made it on time so give yourself a pat on the back. If you got to work late, you still made it in, so another pat on the back is due you. If you got up and made your children breakfast or a sandwich that you made with your very own hands or cooked them a nice dinner, another thumbs up. If you sent someone a funny email and made them laugh or decided the laundry could wait for another day and sat down to watch a sitcom and make yourself laugh, congrats. Took the cat to the vet? Took the dog for walk? Washed the car, mowed the lawn or managed to remember to stop at the drycleaners on the way home so you have something to wear tomorrow? You did yourself proud. Called your parents or grandparents just to say hi and made them feel special by doing so? Turned down the homemade coffee cake that a coworker brought in and proudly munched celery sticks instead? A very big thumbs up. If you ate the cake and told the baker how much you appreciated it, then thumbs up anyway. You made someone feel appreciated and that’s a gift that’s its own reward. I bet there are a lot of things that you might do throughout the day and don’t give yourself credit for. So, from now on, before you turn in for the night, go over those things and you can go to sleep with a smile on your face and feel better about yourself. Today’s confirmation is I’m a good person and I know it. Say it 10 times and mean it. Peace - Rhonda

  2. Excellent post, Rhonda. Face it: people are quick to point the finger at themself, but reluctant to pat themself on the back. Now they can do it all day today without looking crazy.

  4. It’s true…we’re our own worst critics sometimes. We all need to pat ourselves on the back for everything we do that makes our lives richer and makes others happy. I’ll give all of you guys a pat on the back too, for all the hard work and kind words :)
