How to get rid of an excuse that’s been plaguing you

Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that you’ve been putting something off for awhile. What’s the excuse you’re giving for that behavior? Because this might just be a key to getting moving on a personal project that you’ve put off for awhile. Procrastination is the enemy of all progress, and gets in the way of progress for tons of people.

Maybe there’s a technique you can use to change your thinking, or at least become aware enough of it to not let it get in the way of success.

What can you do if you find yourself making the same old excuse to get out of something you really NEED to do? Take out a large mallet and smack yourself over the head with it as hard as you can. Now we’ll see who goofs off again. Although, on second though, that might not be as useful of an act as you might think. Maybe there’s a way to change your behavior that won’t leave you seriously injured?

Okay, you could wear a rubber band on your wrist and pull it and release every time you have the same limiting thought. You won’t get injured, but you’ll feel a little bit of pain that makes you aware of just how often you use the same excuse to avoid being successful. If you find yourself with a wrist that’s completely covered in welts, you can rest assured your over-using that one.

Do this for one week and see if you can change a common thought.
