Greetings-
Today we will be discussing adults who were slim as children, but now find themselves with a little more to love. I’ve talked about having a life long weight problem and the issues that come with it. Because it’s been a constant in my life, I’m pretty much used to it. In my opinion, the women who grew up with those figures that turned heads in the high school hallway and now have to deal with a weight problem, have it a lot harder.
Using examples of friends and family members, the insecurities they feel are much stronger. If they have a hard time taking it back off, the feeling of failure sets in as well. Many constantly talk about how they used to be a size 6 or a size whatever and how great they looked back then. Some even carry pictures in their wallet as if they feel they have to prove it. Personally, I think they look great now. They might be a bit plumper, but certainly they are a lot stronger. They handle their jobs, take care of the kids and all the other responsibilities that their teenaged selves had no clue about. Instead of focusing on their strength and looking forward, many are rooted in the past and look at themselves with disappointment. What I want to say to these ladies is instead of focusing on your past outer beauty, begin to recognize the beauty of your inner strength. Consider all that you have accomplished for yourself and your family. Think about how strong you’ve become and how you have persevered. Heather has a great column up, about setting goals. If you can remember the perseverance it took to achieve all that you have accomplished, setting a goal for yourself and seeing it through might seem a bit easier. I’m going to be following her advice myself, including post dating a check to myself. Today’s affirmation is the strength I used to prevail in the past is still here to help me prevail in the future. Say it 10 times and believe it. Peace - Rhonda
