10 things you can do to stimulate your soul

The word “soul” is one loaded with meaning. For the purpose of this post, I’ll assume you know exactly what I mean when I use it. Think of the soul as your “link with the divine” or even the “Superego”. The definition shouldn’t matter but it’s the part that makes mankind less seperate from deities. Most of learn to ignore our soul, and tend to focus a lot more on our minds or bodies. Here’s 10 things you can do to stimulate your soul.

1) Get in touch with nature.

It’s tough to see a sunrise, a mountain, or a waterfall, and not feel like there’s something more to life. You can usually find a spot of real beauty within a short distance from your home. This won’t cost you any money. Sit still and absorb the natural tranquility.

2) Turn off all external stimuli and listen to the silence.

The hardest thing for many modern people to do is to sit still, and silence their thoughts. The exercise is important. If you can remain still enough, and keep silent enough, it’s rumored you can hear the voice of your true desires. I can’t say that’s true, but it would be worth finding out.

3) Meditate and grow.

It’s not tough to meditate, if you know how to sit still. Again, you’ll want to make sure to seperate yourself from your regular life as much as possible. If you can get away from others, and isolate yourself, all the better. The enemy of meditation is music, TV, or any sort of voices. Meditation can both relax and illuminate you.

4) Enjoy art that you’ve never seen before.

You can go to a museum or look online. It doesn’t matter the method you use, but the important thing is to lose yourself in the works of the masters. Art can help you transcend your normal frame of mind.

5) Explore new music.

Listen to a new genre than you normally do. Try to get rid of your pre-conceived notions of what to expect, and let yourself go. Maybe try some trance music. Anything that can take you away from your normal frame of mind should be worthwhile.

6) Become a mystic.

You wouldn’t be the first person to become a mystic. And if not a full-blown mystic, become more mystical. You owe it to yourself to find out more about how people have always had natural talents for intrepreting nature.

7) Practice your religion/spirituality.

If you have a practice of religion or spirtuality already, perhaps you’ve fallen off. Maybe you need to come to terms with un-resolved issues. It’s probably time to recommit to doing what you’ve always done, or to move on altogether. Only you know the right answer. But make some time from your busy life to nurture your spiritual side.

8) Make friends with your self.

Again, I’m not using the word “self” lightly. It has a lot of meanings to a lot of people. But the best thing you can do is be best friends with all of your selves, the eternal and human parts. The more at peace you are with yourself, the more likely you are to help your soul soar.

9) Bury all unresolved pyschological issues.

It’s never easy to do, but in order to make friends with yourself, you need to let the hurts of the past go. Dealing with people is never easy, and can cause a ton of friction. Nobody is perfect. Forgive or forget as many people as possible and really try to let go. You may find yourself calmer in the end.

10) Make a vow to find out the true meaning of your life.

It’s okay to live life for others, but it’s even better to fulfill your own will. Spend time figuring out what you’re really on Earth to do. There are lots of possibilities, but if you review your past experiences and look closely at your feelings, you may have a revelation about your purpose. Life becomes a little easier when you feel like you’re doing what you want.

Hopefully this list will be of some use and perhaps with some discussion we can expand on it. What ways can you think of to stimulate your soul?

  3. Controlling the mind which left to itself jumps like a monkey and listening to inner voice help to stimulate soul. Restraint in seeking all the time sensory pleasures and materialistic ambitions also helps similarly.

  4. Tahsin, I’m really happy to hear that. Thanks for commenting.

Satish, excellent comment, as always. Controlling the mind is something that is barely mentioned in the curriculum of schools in North America.

The educational system doesn’t cover any personal growth topics, which is really sad in a way.
