One Extra Soda a Day Leads to 15 Pounds of Extra Weight Per Year
August 10, 2006 – 6:42 pmI found an interesting report about how one extra soda per day over the course of a year could add 15 pounds to a persons bodyframe.
The study, led by Dr. Frank Hu was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutritionon Tuesday. This study was done with others from the Harvard School of Public Health and reviewed 40 years of nutrition studies that met a high strict standards.
Obesity rates have climbed as pop has become a standard in many households and often the only item you’ll see in peoples grocery carts.
Richard Adamson, Senior Science consultant for the American Beverage Society had this to say:
“Blaming one specific product or ingredient as the root cause of obesity defies common sense. Instead, there are many contributing factors, including regular physical activity.”
1/3 of all carbohydrates that people consume come from added sweeteners and half of them come from soda pop. A 12 ounce can of soda has the equivalant of 10 teaspoons of sugar, which gets stored in fat cells if it isn’t burned as energy.
This is a great way of preventative medicine in my book.
I’d call it “Lose Weight by Never Gaining it” and drink water instead.
