In a move to offer more services to customers at WalGreen’s the comapny announced that they are planning on adding a number of different health clinics within their drugstores.

Last week the company opened 10 Health Corner Clinics in Kansas City and will be opening 9 more in the St. Loius area later this summer. There are more planned in Las Vegas, Atlanta and Chicago.

Chicago will see its first clinic later this year.

These clinics will provide diagnosis and treatment for routine medical conditions and also screen for ailments such as diabetes. They will also provide vaccinations for the flu, tetanus and other ailments.

They will provide care to both insured and uninsured patients. Insured patients will pay a regular “co-payment” for a visit, while uninsured patients will pay less than what they’d pay at an emergency room or for an out-of-pocket doctor’s visit.

I think that this is an interesting thing for a pharmacy to do, and it even makes sense. I’ll bet patients won’t have to wait as long as they would at a hospital for treatment, and many people will even embrace the idea.

I’d be interested to hear feedback from anyone in Kansas City that has used them. What did you think?
