Back To School Means “Less Junk Food” This Fall
July 13, 2006 – 6:33 pmThis fall, schools are going to be a little different than what they have been in the past.
They aren’t going to have vending machines that sell soda pop or other sugary snacks to students. This could also affect what is being served in the lunchroom.
A Wellness Bill was passed by the Government and went into affect on July 1, 2006 that requires schools to remove soda in an effort to help combat against the growing number of children that are faced with obesity. Not only will this cut back on calories consumed, but it will also decrease the amount of sugar children take in during a day.

Many schools are coming up with creative ideas to promote a healthy diet and an active lifestyle. One school decided that they had to have to have 2 other colors on their plate than just brown or white, another is putting water, fruit juice and milk in the vending machine that used to stock soda.
I certainly can’t argue with it. We didn’t have pop at school 20 years ago, why should today be any different?
