Do you find yourself working long hours and feeling stressed out because of it?

Women Must Balance Work for Optimal Health

If so, you might want to stop and think about how this might be affecting your overall health and your daily habits.

“Women who work long hours eat more high-fat and high-sugar snacks, exercise less, drink more caffeine and, if smokers, smoke more than their male colleagues,” said Dr. Daryl O’Connor, a researcher at Britain’s Leeds University.

“For men, working longer hours has no negative impact on exercise, caffeine intake or smoking,” O’Connor said in a statement released by the Economic and Social Research Council, which funded his study.

They found that women that consider themselves “emotional eaters” were the most likely to turn to food in times of stress because that’s how they deal with negative feelings, instead of addressing the emotions that trigger them turning to food.

So if you’re one of those women that doesn’t have enough time in the day or turns to food when you’re feeling upset or depressed, you should try to make time for yourself and try to turn your negative thoughts into something positive. Even on your busiest day, try to squeeze in at least 20 minutes of exercise, even if it’s just a walk.

It might be difficult to do, but your body (and mind) will be better off for it.
