A recent study has found that women can greatly reduce their chances for having a stroke by leading a healthy lifestyle.

Heart disease and strokes are a leading cause of death for women, especially minority women.

Here are some steps you can take to reduce your chances of suffering a stroke:

  • Quit Smoking. If you’re smart enough to afford cigarettes, you’re smart enough to quit!
  • Limit your consumption of alcoholic beverages. Limiting alcohol to under 10 drinks per week was found to have a positive affect on those studied.
  • Get Active! Try to exercise at least 4 times per week, more if you have the time and energy.
  • Eat sensibly. Eat foods that are high in fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables and lean cuts of meat. You should also be sure to take in Omega 3 oils which is found in fish and available as a dietary supplement. Limit or abstain from foods that contain transfats, or are high in saturated fats.
