7 Simple Ways to Cut Calories in Your Daily Diet
May 31, 2006 – 9:21 amLooking for a few simple tips to cut back some calories in your daily diet without feeling deprived?
If so, here are 7 simple things tips to cut back on calories without feeling deprived of your favorite foods.

- 1. Corn. Corn on the Cob is the most bang for your buck. An ear of corn is approximately 85 calories (without butter). A serving of cream corn is about 185 for a one cup serving. That saves about 100 calories or 15 minutes of brisk walking to burn off the extra calories.
- 2. Fruit Juices. If frit juices are a sweet spot with you, consider diluting your juice with some water. A single serving of a popular Pineapple Juice is 120 calories and contains 29 grams of sugar, a little on the high side. Mixing it half and half with water or seltzer water would significantly cut the calories and extend the life of your juice.
- 3. Rinse Ground Beef. It may sound out of the ordinary, but running hot water over browned
ground beef (no matter how lean it might be) reduces fat and calories. After cooking, drain in a
collander and run hot tap water for a minute or two. - 4. Steam, Bake, Broil or Grill. These traditional cooking methods don’t require extra oils to cook food, and keep calorie counts low. Avoid deep frying or pan frying, since oils and butter add calories and fat.
- 5. Use more Salsa. Not only does salsa add flavor, it’s low in calories and a healthier alternative to mayonnaise or other condiments. After all, salsa is basically chopped up vegetables and compliments many different foods.
- 6. Cook with your mouth full.. of gum! Gum will help you resist the urge to “sample” your food creation and will cut back on “mindless” eating that you might otherwise forget about.
“A little of this and a little of that” can add up some calories quick! - 7. Go Vegetarian! You don’t have to become one forever, but try cutting meats from your diet for 7 days. Experiment with Tofu, eat garden salads, and eat fresh fruits and veggies. This is a great tactic to cut money from your budget, too. (I decided to try this and haven’t ate meat in almost a year!)
I hope that these tips help you find places that you can deficit a few calories to meet your own personal healthy living and weight loss goals.
