Sensitive Skin Requires Extra Care

If you find an unexplained rash or skin irritation, you might suffer from sensitive skin.

Regardless of whether or not it causes discomfort, it just doesn’t look good and could be a low level allergy. Here are some questions to ask yourself before visiting your family doctor or dermatologist.

  • Have you recently started using a new product? Perfume, Makeup, Laundry Detergent, Dryer Sheets, Body Wash or Skin Lotion that your body isn’t used to might be the culprit. If you’ve recently changed or switched products, there could be an ingredient or a chemical that’s causing inflammation.
  • What can I do to stop it from happening?
  • Change to a fragrance free laundry detergent and dryer sheets. Products like Dreft aren’t just for babies. Eliminating harsh chemicals from your laundry basket is a good place to start.
  • Start using gentler soaps and body washes. The more fragrance something has, the greater the chances for irritation. When you shower or bathe, use warm water instead of hot water. Hot water can strip the moisture from your skin causing further problems.
  • An OTC (Over the Counter) antihistimine, can be used to help combat the itchies.

If the condition doesn’t clear up within a week, make an appointment with your dermatologist
    for further treatment.
