80 Million Americans Face Health Problems Because of Obesity and Smoking

80 million is a shocking number. If nothing else, it helps prove that marketing and products that cause addictions have hooked a lot of Americans.

“Nearly 41.5 percent of adults (81 million aged 18 or older) in the US are obese or smoke and about 4.7 percent smoke and are obese,” said Cherly Healton, the head of the anti-tobacco organization American Legacy Foundation in Washington.

“Obesity and cigarette smoking are primary risk factors for several chronic conditions and early death in a large number of people in the United States,” she added.

I wonder if these numbers cause concerns for companies like Altria, the parent company of both Philip Morris (which sells Marlboro, Virginia Slims, Parliament and Basic cigarettes) and Kraft Foods. Do they really have the consumers best interest at heart?

I realize it’s nothing but business to them, but at some point in time ethics should mean something to them, too.

But I suppose that’s why they’re always getting sued.
