Prepackaged Diet Plans

Prepackaged Diet Plans. Information on prepackaged diet plans.

If you are following prepackaged diet plans, you have to buy prepackaged meals. Such meals may help you learn appropriate portion sizes. However, they can be costly. So in spite of the prohibitive costs, why do people opt for prepackaged diet plans? Because, they take the guesswork out of choosing the food to diet. It is important to keep in mind that only a prepackaged plan won't work, there have to be lifestyle changes, education on meal planning, exercise and managing stress.

Prepackaged Jenny Craig food has become very popular. In this plan you are required to eat Jenny Craig food at each meal, every day during the first half of your weight loss goal. There is a transition to real foods after that. Prepackaged foods and supplements along with personal weekly consultations for motivation and behavior change are the central parts of the program.

A recent study was held to find the long-term effects of two types of diet, "a prepackaged, nutritionally complete meal plan" and a "usual-care diet". They compared the effects of the two diets on weight loss and cardiovascular risk factors in overweight and obese people. To perform the study they randomly selected 183 people with hypertension/dyslipidemia and 119 people with type 2 Diabetes. After one year, weight change in the hypertension/dyslipidemia group was -5.8kg with the prepared meal plan vs. -1.7kg with the usual care diet plan. Both groups improved blood pressure, total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and the glycosylated hemoglobin level.

The study concluded that prepackaged diet plans simultaneously provided the simplicity and nutrient composition that is necessary to maintain long-term compliance.

Disadvantages of prepackaged diet plans: These plans can be expensive - they can add up to $400 for each month with meals, supplements, fruits and vegetables. It is difficult to eat prepackaged foods with others and also to dine out. If you cook for your family, you still need to buy groceries, cook and clean up so you lose the convenience aspects.
