Low Calorie Diet

Lose weight by Reducing Calorie Intake

One of the longest standing way to lose weight is by going on a low calorie diet. The basis of this is that by reducing your daily intake of calories (energy units) your body will have to use fat to fuel it.

If you have been considering going on a low calorie diet, keep in mind your body still requires food to function, so you still want to be sure that you are getting enough calories for basal functions. Most low calorie diets are based in a 1200 to 1500 calories a day intake. Of course, every person is different and not every diet is for everyone. Men and women have different metabolic rates, so an active man may be able to consume more calories and still lose weight.

Following a lower calorie diet will require some discipline. Avoiding foods that are filled with sugars and fats is one of the first things that you can do to reduce daily calories. Listed below are some foods that you can limit or eliminate to dramatically reduce the amount of calories that you consume.

  • Soda Pop. Soda is filled with sugar that is nothing but empty calories.
  • Potato and Snack Chips. Most of these types of snack chips are deep fried and/ or coated with artificial flavorings. They can really pack a punch and leave you feeling hungry.
  • Deep Fried Foods. Anything that is cooked by being soaked in oil is going to have a significant amount of calories. Most of which aren't good fuel sources for your body.
  • Alcohol. Calories that you drink must also be taken into account. A six pack of a "light" beer is still around 600 calories!
  • Candies and Sweets. Even though they taste good, the extra sugars that they contain wipe out the best intentions of a low calorie dieter.

Replacing these types of foods with healthier choices such as salads, fresh fruits, crunchy vegetables and lean meats will help you to function better on a day to day basis.
